Barbeque: Thank You!

To whom it may concern, thank you for the lovely weather we have enjoyed 2 years running for the Seals barbeque – what a relief!

I have a few big thank you’s to pass on as without their help the day would not have happened.

  • My hubby, Paul (1st chef) – for chopping 25 onions, cooking and just being there.
  • Paul and Jo Davison (2nd chefs) – for enduring an eye watering, smoke fuelled cooking session when things got rough.
  • Sally Dixon, Annie Collins and Letitia Cox – excellent roll cutting and dealing with the hungry crowds.
  • Kay Eyre – for providing gazebo’s. Without the shade I think the helpers, and rolls, would have crumpled!
  • Trevor Cox – Knight in shining Armour for second year running. He know’s what I mean.
  • Julian Percy – sending out invites to all members.
  • Simon – excellent potato salad and for being on “standby” as barbeque chef.
  • The children  –  those who helped and those who were just brilliantly behaved. It was lovely to see all age groups having a great day together.

If I have forgotten to thank anyone else I apologise. Give yourself a pat on the back from me. x

The team would like to apologise for the delay in serving the food – it certainly was not our intention for it to be that late. Although both barbeques were lit at 11.30am, they did not have enough ventilation to draw the air in. Although they were hot enough to cook the food, they were very slow for the amount of food we had. I think they are probably suited to smaller groups for cooking – it’s a shame as the venue itself was ideal.  However, I am sure you all enjoyed your day and let’s hope the weather next year is good to us too (whatever the plan may be………….).

Competitive Diving

We have been using a lane in the Sunday morning session for coaching children towards their Competitive Diving award. Unfortunately, due to the large number of swimmers that now attend on Sundays, we need all the lanes for general training. If you have been attending these sessions, please keep on coming along to Sunday morning sessions.
From now on, Competitive Diving coaching will take place on Friday evenings. Swimmers in session 1 will be asked to stay on for 30-45 minutes to complete the programme. This should take 4-6 weeks. Carole will let you know when it’s your child’s turn. Please do not attend unless invited. If you can only come for part of this extra session, please let Anne or Carole know.

Monday Training Session

From September, for a trial period, the Leisure Centre has granted us a single lane from 6.30pm to 7.30pm. We are currently deciding how to use this session but it will probably be used for swimmers who cannot attend one of the other regular sessions during the week.

Attendance

Children currently in the first three lanes of session 1 should be attending at least two sessions per week. Those in the top lanes in session 1, and all those in session 2, should be attending all three sessions. If your child is away for longer than three sessions without notification, we cannot guarantee that their place in the lane will be held for them.

Noticeboard

We have a new, extra large, noticeboard. Please read it regularly! Even if your child is not in galas, there are social events and other issues you should be aware of.

Floats and Paddles

The Club has given a float to every swimmer in the 2nd and 3rd session and hand paddles are being given out this week. They will also be receiving a net bag to keep all the equipment in.

Badges and Certificates

All badges and certificates are now FREE! If your child has been awarded a badge or certificate, collect it from Kaye Eyre, who is now looking after our Swim Shop. She is normally upstairs during 1st sessions and can be contacted by email.
